Pinehurst is not a generic Sandhills suburb. It is a golf village: longleaf pine, sandy soil over clay, and lots that sit inside neighborhoods with architectural review. A water feature here has to look like it has always belonged next to a screened porch and a cart path.
What actually loads a Pinehurst pond is pine straw and summer heat. Needles mat in a skimmer that was never sized for a longleaf lot. Clay fines wash in after a hard rain. A lot of Pinehurst calls are for a pond you can see from the porch, or a waterfall you hear after dinner when the course is quiet. Formal enough for the neighborhood. Wild enough that it still looks like water found the low spot. Native stone, not a tropical catalog pile.
